Bernadine Hawes, senior research associate at CMC, was recently elected to the Board of the Urban Manufacturing Alliance (UMA). UMA provides a national voice on equitable economic development strategies that support small and mid-sized manufacturers in urban areas and which create important pathways to the middle class.

They provide online and in-person platforms to foster exchanges to improve, replicate and disseminate community development tools.

Through primary data collection, thought-partnerships with leading national and local organizations and showcasing the work of their members and other practitioners, UMA seeks to better inform the public, policymakers and thought leaders around the current and growing manufacturing landscape in cities across the US and beyond.

Well recognized for her work in the manufacturing sector, Hawes is currently the chair of the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC), which since 1988 has focused exclusively on the region’s manufacturing community to grow business value through consulting services, talent development, training and education and networking.

Its vision is to see our region become an internationally recognized leader in manufacturing competitiveness.

Hawes is also vice chair of the US Commerce Department’s NIST Manufacturing Extension Program National Advisory Board.

MEP centers are located in each state and in Puerto Rico, and provide support in building the national manufacturing ecosystem.

Community Marketing Concepts (CMC) is a certified MBE/WBE engagement marketing and communications firm located in Philadelphia.

The firm, celebrating 24 years of service to the Philadelphia region, specializes in grasstop to grassroots engagement strategies that influence communities to interact with campaigns, understand their meaning and act on their message.
