The Office of the Sheriff of Philadelphia City and County recently topped $1 million in money given back to former property owners after Sheriff Jewell Williams handed over a substantial check to James Edward Smith, whose property was sold at a sheriff’s sale.
The money given to Smith brought the total amount of disbursements to date to $1,038,718.70.
“This puts us well ahead of where we were at this time last year”, said Sheriff Williams, “and is a testament to the selfless work done by our Defendant Asset Recovery Team (D.A.R.T) that processes the paperwork for requests of excess funds”.
“Since I took office three years ago’’, said Sheriff Williams, “we’ve disbursed more than $4 million through the D.A.R.T. Unit’’.
