So now that the election results have been tallied, and the outcomes have been shared with the country, the world, your community, your household, and yourself; how are you feeling in its aftermath? I know that for myself, my emotions are all over the place, and I cannot stop crying. When it appears that the majority of voters are in agreement when it comes to those things that threaten to harm me as a Black woman, especially in light of the historic hatred heaped upon my ancestors, it’s a small wonder that I can’t seem to get it together.
I have been reminded by my brothahs and sistahs in Christ — and my brothers and sisters in general, people who are feeling the same way — that God is in control. God has the final word when it comes down to what takes place in this world, in our communities, in our families, and in our individual lives. God is the overseer of all those things. He makes the call on what Satan can do.
I had a powerful experience during my Bible study session where we discussed the aftermath of the election. I had to be reminded, as I am going to remind you, that we are all sinners who have fallen short, and that it is grace that keeps us walking with our heads high — that grace.
Our ancestors struggled against hateful forces, and in the process, experienced great loss. Still, these losses often resulted in progress over time. I am not sure how you are feeling in this aftermath, but I know how strongly I feel, and how I plan to move forward. I choose to accept this result, knowing that God is the one who allows these things to happen in our lives. It is a challenge to reach down deep into the faith base that is already in your lives and lean into it completely, fully, and holistically.
Faith is not something that you can see — it is something that you believe. It is something that you walk, speak, and have all along. Now is the time to put it into action. Now is the time to speak truth to your family as you speak truths to yourself. We are living in some trying times. These are times unlike any I have ever experienced before as a Black woman living in “Amerika.”
As you continue to live your life in faith, love, and in the hope that flows from the goodness of God in the aftermath of the election, share a hug with someone that may be in need. Share a positive word with a heart that is unsure and uncertain. You cannot allow your fears to cause you to give up, because we are not going to go back. We are going to get up, and we are going to fight. There is a purpose that God has for all of us in, including the election’s winners. Everyone deserves God’s grace, no matter what they may do or not do. No matter what your past has been, your future can be greater.
Take my hand and walk with me in faith as we journey together in the aftermath of this election. Until next time, take care… PEACE!
