Have you noticed what I have as the newness of the season takes shape, ushering in longer days, with buds appearing on trees? Limbs that were bare are now filled with beautiful flowers and new leaves as spring fills the air. This is a time of renewal — a time to start fresh in a new season, as we have been weighed down for quite a few months with cold temperatures, winter gear, and boots. It did not snow — at least not enough to make a difference. Personally, I don’t care for the snow since it’s so messy and often causes accidents if you’re driving.
So now that spring is in the air, begin to set yourself up for the changes that are ahead. The days will be longer, your clothing is going to get lighter as the temperatures rise, and allergies — if you suffer from them — have already kicked in. Children do not have much longer to be in school — June is around the corner. So this is a good time to get your mind right, your body right, and your soul right.
So what does that look like? Some Christians have just completed Daniel’s Fast, celebrated during the 40 days of Lent in honor of Jesus and his Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Muslims are celebrating Ramadan and are still in the midst of that season. Allow the newness of the spring season to prepare you for what lies ahead as you give up things in God’s strength, as you follow the rules in the way of Allah, and as you practice other things in your prayer life following that higher being you look up to, that you worship.
This is the time to start getting all of the five senses together. As I mentioned earlier, as you end your fast, it is a good time to continue the process of restoring your mind, body, and soul. Stay with the change of the season. Make sure you are mindful of the time you eat your meals, and be mindful of the time you turn in for the night so that you can sleep at most eight hours. Watching what we put into our mouths, and getting ourselves together physically, mentally, financially, and emotionally is important in this new season. Spring is in the air, and whatever was hidden in the winter is about to be revealed.
Where do you see yourself, and how do you integrate yourself into your own sense of newness? Change can be challenging and hard, but it can also be rejuvenating. That is what change is good for — the renewal of the mind. Allow yourself to move into this change with smiles and good feelings flowing from your heart.
We are in the midst of a new season, spring is in the air. Can you smell it? Are you able to touch it? Have you seen the beauty, and are you ready to taste all the goodness of spring? Get ready to experience the newness of your life today, whatever that looks like for you. Feel the joy, be uplifted, and by all means, celebrate spring. Until next time…PEACE!
