Members of UFCW 1776KS will see wage increases and safety improvements at hundreds of workplaces across Pennsylvania following collaboration with employers.
UFCW 1776KS announced last Sunday industry-wide safety measures, temporary wage premiums and improved benefits for retail and grocery workers in union facilities across Pennsylvania.
“Our members are performing the essential work necessary to keep people safe during this unprecedented outbreak,” said UFCW 1776KS President Wendell Young, IV. “Thanks to the hard work that these frontline responders are doing, Pennsylvania families can shop in safety. Enhancing safety protocols to protect these workers, customers and providing fair wages and improved benefits to meet their needs is the least we can do to thank them.”
Workers in retail and grocery stores are currently facing large crowds and long lines of shoppers but remain undeterred as they strive to provide their communities with a clean, orderly and above all, safe shopping experience.
Employees at Acme, ShopRite, Giant Eagle, Fresh Grocer and Rite Aid will receive temporary premiums and improved benefits negotiated by the union.
“In these challenging times, Pennsylvanians need a stable place to shop for themselves and their families. These safety measures will protect both our members and customers,” Young said. “I want to thank those employers that are stepping up for safety. As we move forward, we will continue to work closely with these companies to protect all of our members’ interests throughout this crisis.” Young continued, “To our members, I am extraordinarily proud of your dedication to the families and communities you are serving throughout incredibly difficult and challenging times.”
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 Keystone State (UFCW 1776KS) represents 35,000 workers in a wide variety of industries including retail, grocery, food manufacturing, healthcare and cannabis in Pennsylvania, the Hudson Valley and the Ohio Valley.
