A college preparatory program that provides a Pathway for High Potential Student-Athletes to access and earn collegiate athletic scholarships

Prep Set Go (PSG) kicked off its college prep program for student-athletes on Monday, June 26, 2017.  The five-week program will run from Monday through Thursday, 9:00AM to 1:30PM and will be hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia Germantown, located at 25 W. Penn Street.

Prep Set Go provides an avenue for students in grades 9 through 12 who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in the sports of track and field with the educational tools, information resources and support that will enable their success at the collegiate level.  The inaugural program, which required pre-registration, draws heavily from the grassroots track and field organizations in the Philadelphia area.

Despite the strong foundation that exists for athletes to develop their talent in Philadelphia, many of them do not make it into the pipeline for athletic scholarship opportunities that can pave the way for future success in life. “The Philadelphia youth track and field community needs to be supported in assisting its student athletes to access opportunities beyond the secondary school level,” said Prep Set Go Founder Lola Sergeant. “Many of our Philadelphia student athletes need help when it comes to building an awareness and understanding of the college recruiting process, understanding and achieving the academic standards required for college eligibility, completing SAT test prep in preparation for taking the SAT exam, engaging the college admissions process via the NCAA clearinghouse process, and promoting themselves as prospective recruits at the colleges of their interest.”

Prep Set Go’s program offers a comprehensive SAT prep led by certified high school Math and English teachers with a combined 40 years of experience in administering standardized test prep and tutoring programs.   The students will also receive instructions in the college admissions and recruiting process from experts in the field and develop personalized portfolios of their interests, accomplishments and goals.

Guest presenters in the program include former U.S. Olympian Norman Tate and higher education administrator Dr. Pauline Jennett.  Tate has coached numerous National Track and Field Champions at the High School, Collegiate and Professional level. He is a graduate of North Carolina Central University  and a member of the Penn Relays Wall of Fame. He is also the USATF Head Coach for the Pan American Junior Team that will be traveling to compete in Peru, July 2017.  Dr. Jennett is a former associate director of admissions at Harvard Business School and has served as the Director of Recruitment and Admissions for the MBA Exchange. Dr. Jennett earned her MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and she also holds a Ph.D. in Education and a Masters of Divinity Degree, Cum Laude from Boston University.

Founded by Sergeant and Carolyn Griggs, Prep Set Go has reached out to community partners to help fulfill on its mission to empower youth. Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF) and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia Germantown are among its inaugural community partners.
