Vivica A. Fox has signed on to play Taraji P. Henson’s (Cookie Lyon’s) older sister on Season 2 of “Empire,” reports Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive.
Fox’s older sister character will be coming after Cookie for an “reasons unknown” – reasons, if kept in the spirit of the series, likely won’t be good (at least not for Cookie).
“Cookie’s other family members are troublesome to say the least,” executive producer Ilene Chaiken told EW.
Taraji and Vivica together in the garish “Empire” as their individual characters, potentially going up against each other, should be an absolute riot for fans of the hit Fox series!
By the way, Tasha Smith plays Cookie’s other sister, who was previously introduced last season, appearing in three episodes.
I should note that series creator Lee Daniels has said that he’s developing an “Empire” spin-off that would center on a young Cookie and/or her extended family. So it could be that the introduction of more of Cookie’s family this season will all be in preparation for the eventual spin-off.
