HARRISBURG – State Sen. Vincent Hughes will join with Tom Joyner of the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” to host Take a Loved One to the Doctor (TALOTTD), a community health and wellness event aimed at promoting health and wellness in the African-American community.

The event will be held on October 19 and 20 at Philadelphia’s Liacouras Center on Temple University campus along North Broad Street.

“I am happy to partner with Tom Joyner to bring his signature event to Philadelphia,” Hughes said. “Getting the proper wellness screenings is critically important to sustaining our health. We must continue to raise awareness about health and wellness in the African-American community and encourage our loved ones to be proactive about their health by making appointments to visit health professionals.”

TALOTTD kicks off at 6 AM on Friday, October 19 with a live broadcast of the Tom Joyner Morning Show. The event will include live musical performances and interviews from today’s top health experts. The health festival will open at 9 AM on both October 19 and 20, offering attendees FREE dental and medical screenings, as well as tips on fitness, nutrition, beauty, and health related college and career recruitment.

Hughes added that there will be 1,000 free health screenings offered to event attendees. Walgreens will also offer free flu shots.

“My staff and I have worked diligently with Tom Joyner and his staff, as well as Radio One Philadelphia and various other stakeholders to plan and implement this targeted campaign to raise health awareness in the community. This event will shine a national spotlight on Philadelphia,” Hughes said. “I hope to see you and your loved ones at this important community health event.”

Hughes and his wife, Actress/Activist Sheryl Lee Ralph, will make several appearances at the two-day health expo, including:

Friday, October 19

7:15 AM – Sky Show, live national broadcast interview with Tom Joyner, Sybil Wilkes & J. Anthony Brown

10:30 AM – Press Conference

Saturday, October 20
