A few months ago, we were all introduced to Cappuchino (Cheryl Haygen), who came to Philly to replace the “Midday Princess” Shamara on Power99FM (98.9FM). Many listeners (including myself) were a little skeptical that she could ever fill the whole in our hearts (and our airwaves) where Shamara used to live. This is your official introduction to the Southern girl, with the raspy twang who (reluctantly in some cases) has started to grow on us.

Trying to fill a long-time personality’s slot can be difficult for anyone, especially in Philly, the City of Brotherly Love or Judgmental Scrutiny, depending on who you talk to. But Cappuchino says she’s not here to fill anyone’s shoes. “Sometimes mine are too big”, she says.

Coming in she said she knew that people would be critical, but part of the reason why she’s lasted so long in this business is because of her “thick skin”. And maybe the criticism will begin to die down, now that we’re all getting used to Cappuchino’s style. Not to mention our much loved “friend” Shamara has found her way back on air at her new home Wired 96.5FM (a move that was definitely strategic by the company to gain her loyal midday listeners).

In a city where change is hardly ever embraced (i.e. Coach Andy Reid’s long-term career), Cappuchino does have the tough job of making the show her own without alienating Power’s listeners. So far, she’s done well by incorporating her all personality into the midday slot with segments like “The Big Scoop” celebrity update, but keeping those well liked aspects like the “Midday Inspiration”, which began while Shamara was on air.

Prior to coming to Philadelphia, Cappuchino had been in Louisiana for about seven years. A country girl, she says her biggest adjustment since coming to Philly has been dealing with traffic and parking. “It’s really crazy out here. It’s like parking wars and every hour is rush hour”, she laughs. And while she hasn’t had the chance to experience an official Philly Cheesesteak from Jim’s, Tony Luke’s or Pat’s just yet, she is looking forward to summertime treats like water ice and soft pretzels.

Cappuchino says she wants listeners to see her as their friend. Raised in Florida, she brings a touch of Southern Hospitality to the air. “I’m like your girlfriend on air. I want people to call and just chat with me, even if I don’t air the call, I want people to just know me as the friendly person I am”.

You can check Cappuchino out on Power 99 FM from 10 AM-3 PM and you can also follow her on Twitter @CappOnAir and like her on Facebook by searching Cappuchino. “If you tweet me or send me a comment I’ll respond. I take the time to communicate with everyone” she ensures, “so send me your comments”. Also be sure to tune in to her show or check out www.Power99.com to find out what appearances Cappuchino will be making in and around Philadelphia.
