Community College of Philadelphia is pleased to welcome back Jasmine E. Sessoms in the newly created role of chief engagement officer. Sessoms had previously served as the College’s government relations officer from 2019 to 2020.

She will begin as chief engagement officer on Sept. 5. In this role, Sessoms will oversee the Office of Engagement, which includes managing the College’s local, state, and federal government and legislative priorities, community relations, and workforce development initiatives. Additionally, this vital role and department will establish strategic business and industry partnerships to enhance the overall operations and reputation of the College.

“Jasmine is an incredible force for good in our community,” said College President Dr. Donald “Guy” Generals. “She has been instrumental in numerous philanthropic projects and initiatives that support Philadelphians. I look forward to seeing the impact she will have on our students and the greater Philadelphia community in her new role at the College.”

Before rejoining the College’s executive cabinet, Sessoms served as the senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for Hilco Redevelopment Partners. There, she created and implemented the organization’s workforce development system as well as government, community relations, environmental, social, governmental, and philanthropic initiatives.

During her time at Hilco, Sessoms co-founded Everybody Builds, an initiative to assist Black and Brown developers, contractors, owners, and unions; and established the 10-year “Hilco Helps” Scholarship at Community College of Philadelphia

Prior to Hilco, Sessoms served as the managing executive director of The Fund for Philadelphia, where she administered grants and fostered the bike share initiative still found in the city today. She took pride in managing the philanthropic priorities set forth by Mayors Michael A. Nutter and James F. Kenney.

Sessoms remains actively engaged in the community by serving on numerous boards and commissions, including Cheyney University Board of Trustees, Philadelphia Works, and the Mann Music Center. In 2013, she founded the organization She Can Win, which trains and empowers women of color to pursue political office.

She has won various awards, including: The Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award, City and State PA’s 40 Under 40 award, the Above and Beyond Women’s award, NOW’s Woman of the Year award, and the first ever AYLA Award from the United Negro College Fund.

Sessoms graduated from Morgan State University and holds a master’s degree in Organizational Development and Leadership from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
