The digital frame in the lobby of KYW Newsradio was unveiled to reveal the newest members to the “Great Hall.” Awards were given by Director of News and Programming, Steve Butler, and General Sales Manager, David Yadgaroff. Bob Kelly, an Account Executive for KYW Newsradio for over 20 years, returned to the station after 15 years for the induction. Both Karin Phillips and Jack O’Rourke passed away within days of each other in September this year. Families of Karin Phillips, Former Community Affairs Reporter, and Jack O’Rourke, Former Sports Reporter for the Philadelphia Phillies, accepted the awards on their behalf.

During the ceremony, Bob Kelly, former Account Executive began by saying, “When I started we didn’t make money for 2 years, and morning drive was $40 a spot!” He continued on to say, “I was here for 25 years, I loved every minute of it and it’s a great honor.”

Karin Phillips mother, Dorris Phillips said through tears, “It’s a real honor and I know Karin would be proud and happy. She loved what she did and she loved the people.”

Sean O’Rourke on behalf of his father said, “My dad loved the Phillies and he loved KYW. The family is grateful for this memorial and tribute to my dad. It’s a great honor, it would mean a lot to him to be remembered always.”

Since 1965, many talented and dedicated people have made KYW one of the most valuable resources to the Delaware Valley. To honor some of the great people who’ve been on the air or behind the scenes, KYW Newsradio began the Hall of Fame. Many employees have worked alongside of these folks, heard tales about them or are influenced by them still today. There is no doubt that there have been several legendary people who have made KYW what it is today. Bob Kelly, Karin Phillips and Jack O’Rourke now join Bill Bransom, Dick Covington, Bobbie Daly, Mark Helms, Don Lancer, Andrea Mitchell, Roy Shapiro, and Sandy Starobin in the KYW Newsradio Hall of Fame.
