Radio personality David Barnes, host of the New World View radio program on WURD 96.1 and 900 AM recently lost his daughter Florence L. Pugh, 47years old.  Born on December, 8, 1969, Florence L. Pugh was the first born child from the loving union of Harriet G. Pugh and David E. Barnes Sr. Florence was a loving, caring, pleasant, charming, beautiful and free spirited person. Growing up in the difficult surroundings of the 46th and Fairmount Avenue project homes, Florence blossomed into a magnificently motivating woman who helped anyone crossing her path.

Pugh was educated in the Philadelphia public school system attending Alain Locke Elementary School, Haverford Avenue and University City High School.  She went on to hold several jobs in health care and retail. She was truly a “people’s person” and could light up a room upon entering.

She loved to party, go to the casinos and to play bingo. Occasionally you could find her enjoying a few cocktails with her friends at the Delmar lounge in Germantown.

Around 1997, Pugh found the love of her life with Rodney Rivers as they shared 17 years together in a sometimes turbulent but always a true love affair. After the passing of Rivers in 2014, Pugh felt lost and alone, even with all the love that surrounded her.

Pugh went home on July 26, 2017 leaving behind in sorrow a loving Father, internationally renowned photographer and talk radio host; her mother Belinda Champion; David Barnes Sr.; a brother David Barnes Jr.; a sister in-law Ernestine Glover; nieces, Channel, Briana, Fatima; nephew Dymir; step-brother Anthony Taylor and step-sister Quinnetta Nelson; as well as the children of Rodney Rivers, Rasheeda Rivers, her daughters, Ciara and Cyani; and her sister, Quanda.

Pugh also leaves behind her “number one relative of all time,” Mia Pugh; an adopted mother Linda; grand mom Nellie; play brother Ellis; Aunt Patricia; and niece Alicia.  Florence also leaves to cherish her memories, her West Philly family — her aunt Precious, cousins Tracey, Clifford, Rocky, Del ,Yusaf, Leddie and a host of friends.
