Social series features Philadelphians from Small Businesses positively impacted by Philadelphia hosting the 2016 Democratic National Convention
This week, the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention announced a series of short videos on social media that feature Philadelphia business owners and employees speaking about what they love about doing business in the Greater Philadelphia area and providing tips for visitors coming to Philadelphia for the Convention.
The businesses featured in the series are representative of the independent and diverse organizations that have been, and will continue to be, positively impacted by the Convention thanks to the Host Committee’s commitment to working with diverse, local businesses for its supplier needs.
“The Host Committee has been committed to working with diverse, local businesses since Philadelphia won the bid to host the Convention, and that effort has only gotten stronger over the last several months,” said Kevin Washo, Executive Director of the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee. “It is important to us that local businesses be positively impacted by the Convention taking place in Philadelphia, and we are thrilled to showcase some of the positive feedback we have received through these videos.”
Participants in the content series touch on themes of a small town feel in a big city, the energy of Philadelphia’s residents, and the city’s diverse and thriving neighborhoods. The videos were filmed on location at, or near, the featured company’s business headquarters, and the photos were shot at iconic locations throughout the city, including Dilworth Plaza, Eakins Oval, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Host Committee will share the videos across social media platforms starting July 1st, using the hashtag #DNCBizPartner.
The videos feature Ernel Martinez of Amber Art & Design, an artist collective based in Kensington. Martinez and his group participated in the painting for the “Donkeys Around Town” program, having painted the Pennsylvania donkey. Christopher Wertz of TUCS provided cleaning services at the Convention offices and will provide these services during the week of Convention. Mazda Miles of Perfection Events and Kate Stockton of Stockton & Partners are owners of their own event production companies and are working together to produce the Host Committee’s Welcome Party that will take place on July 24th.
The photos include representatives from Philadelphia String Quartet, Nature’s Gallery Florist, Minuteman Press Philadelphia, Premier Luxury Rentals, Vesper Social Club, RSVP Productions, JR Resources, Dre’s Water Ice and Ice Cream, Magnificent Balloon Events, Hip City Veg and Rittenhouse Political Partners. The Host Committee worked with all of these companies for different Convention-related planning events over the last year.
The videos were shot and edited by James Elam, a Philadelphia filmmaker and founder of Eternal Crescent Media company, a local African American-owned business. The photos were shot by Host Committee staff photographer, Nick Sisofo.
Beginning today, videos and photos will be shared over the course of the next week on the Host Committee’s blog, as well as on the Host Committee’s YouTube channel, and teased on the Host Committee’s social media platforms, using #DNCBizPartner:
