The Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office under the guidance of Sheriff Jewell Williams, is offering free “Refuse To Be A Victim ” seminars to the public. The crime prevention seminars will take place at various churches and community centers throughout the city July and August.
The Locations and times will be advertised in local newspapers, radio and internet.
Those interested in attending will need to register in advance for seating by calling the number that will be advertised for the seminar. Inspector Parris Washington, who works with victim advocates and is the training Supervisor at the Sheriff’s Office will be the instructor.
Each seminar will cover these topics as Crime prevention tips; fraud, emergency preparedness, home security, internet dating and dorm security.
The first seminar is scheduled for Monday July 23, at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, 230 W. Coulter Street from 6 to 8pm. “Crime does not take a break,” said Inspector Washington. “One person is murdered every 31 minutes, one home is burglarized every 9.2 seconds, one elderly person is victimized every 2.7 minutes. “The Sheriff’s Office is consistently working to help the people of this City and County stay vigilant on ways of protecting themselves… This is a team effort.”
