Melony Roy, a reporter and social media manager for KYW Newsradio, was elected the new president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists during it’s regular meeting Tuesday night.
Roy succeeds her KYW Newsradio colleague, Community Affairs Reporter Cherri Gregg, as the organization’s president. Gregg decided not to run for re-election to another two-year term.

To win the office, Roy bested Manuel McDonnell Smith, assignment editor for NBC-10 by a margin of 32-27.
Sheldon Sneed, a graphics designer for the Asbury Park Press, won re-election as the organization’s Vice President-Print, besting Ernest Owens, columnist and editor of “Philadelphia Magazine’s” G Philly section, by two votes.
Haniyyah Sharpe-Brown, Communications Manager for City Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds-Brown replaces current secretary Fatia Kasumu as the organization’s new secretary. She defeated freelance writer and author Marcia Cooper-Stroman for the position.
The organization also elected Jason Smith of WHYY-91 FM as Vice President-Broadcast and Candace Shelton, Digital Content Coordinator for VisitPhilly.com. They will be succeeding Charlene Horne, Video Editing Supervisor for CBS-3 and the CW Philly and Denise James, Strategic Communications Director for the Philadephia Police Department.
PABJ’s new officers will take their seats at the organization’s first meeting of the New Year on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at 7 p.m.
