Attorney Michael Coard, Phila. NAACP and others protest firing of beloved radio personality
Lady B– an indisputable Philly radio icon- was unjustifiably, abruptly and disrespectfully fired from WRNB100.3FM where she hosted the highly- rated and widely popular Basement Party show since 2007.
Lady B, who heads what the community lovingly refers to as the B Nation, deserves much better than that outrageously unwarranted termination. She was handed the baton/microphone by the great Mary Mason in 1979 when she was an intern for the “Queen of Philly Radio.”
During her nearly four decade career, Lady B has become a Philly radio icon, not only because of the great music she plays, the great concerts she hosts, and the great A-List Old School Hip Hop celebrities she interviews, but because of the great community service she performs. She’s fighting gun crimes in the Hands Across Philly’s Stop The Violence marches, battling to save historic Cheyney University, educating the community about Black History Month all year long, enlightening about voting rights, and informing listeners about city, state, and federal programs designed for senior citizens and low income residents.
The “B Army” and Lady B’s “8-80” Philly music radio-listening audience, along with the entire Philly community demands that Lady B be returned to a radio platform that allows her to continue helping the community and to continue making the community happy with great Old School Hip Hop and R&B music.
