Presented by Cracker Barrel, proceeds will benefit The American Association for Cancer Research

WDAS FM, Philly’s Best R&B & Throwbacks, Power 99, Philadelphia’s Hip Hop and R&B, and Smooth Jazz ‘JJZ 1480 will hold its inaugural “Sista Strut 3K Breast Cancer Walk” on Saturday, June 17 at Xfinity Live! in Philadelphia.  Proceeds will benefit The American Association for Cancer Research, the first and largest scientific organization in the world focused on every aspect of high-quality, innovative cancer research.

The walk aims to raise breast cancer awareness among African- American women, who are 41 percent more likely to die from the disease than White women, making screenings and early detection crucial.  WDAS FM, Power 99 and Smooth Jazz ‘JJZ will promote Sista Strut on-air, as well as on the stations’ websites and social media pages. In addition, on-air personalities from all three stations will be on site to host the event.

Philadelphia radio personality and Detroit Sista Strut co-founder Frankie Darcell and her daughter.

“As one of the founders of Detroit’s Sista Strut, I’m ecstatic that nearly 20 years later the event will be held in our Philadelphia community,” said Frankie Darcell, on-air personality of WDAS FM.  “I’m walking for my mother, a 16-year survivor, for a college friend who lost her 16-year battle this year and for all the African- American women in our community that our stations aim to encourage to get mammograms and screenings.”

“We are grateful for the generous contributions to support cancer research through Sista Strut,” said Mitch Stoller, Executive Director of the AACR Foundation. “Thanks to this exceptional effort and support of the community, the AACR will be able to help support the research needed to save more lives from cancer,” added Stoller.

Presented by Cracker Barrel, the Sista Strut rally will start at 8 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m.  The event is sponsored by Blessings4Ever Home Care, Forman Mills, The Philadelphia Recycling Office and The Tax Divas, a Division of Anita T. Conner & Associates P.C.

For approximately 20 years, Sista Strut has engaged thousands of women in various cities such as Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee.  To register and learn more about Sista Strut, listeners can go to wdasfm.com, power99.com or wjjz.com.
