There will be temporary, intermittent street closures in Center City to accommodate a helicopter lift of heavy equipment on Saturday, February 9th and Sunday, February 10th, Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced on Thursday. The closures are expected to last from 4:00am to 1:00pm. The streets will not be completely closed the entire duration but delays should be expected via intermittent closures as heavy equipment is carried overhead by the helicopter. The following streets will be impacted:

Saturday, February 9th

On Street From Street To Street

Market St. N. 20th St. N. 22nd St.

N. 20th St. JFK Blvd. Market St.

Ludlow St. S. 20th St. S. 22nd St.

Sunday, February 10th

JFK Blvd. N. Broad St. N. 16th St.

N. 15th St. Arch St. Market St.

S. 16th St. Market St. Chestnut St.

Adjacent cross streets will also be closed intermittently during this time. The street closures will allow for the safe delivery of the heavy equipment, and are a standard safety precaution. Due to the height of these buildings a helicopter is needed to set these units. For safety reasons and because of the nature of the work to be performed, the streets will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The lift has been scheduled for the weekend to minimize disruption to residents and businesses. Police assistance will be on hand to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and work crews for the duration of all closures. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
