1959-1961 – Ginsburg becomes a law clerk with the US District Court, Southern District of New York;
1961-1963 – Ginsburg becomes a research associate and the associate director of the Project of International Procedure at Columbia Law School;
1963-1972 – Ginsburg becomes a professor at the Rutgers University School of Law.
1972-1980 – Ginsburg becomes the first woman to be hired with tenure at the Columbia University School of Law.
1973-1980 – Ginsburg becomes the General Counsel for the ACLU.
1980-1993 – Ginsburg is appointed to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by President Jimmy Carter. In 1993, she is appointed to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton.
August 10, 1993 – Ginsburg becomes the second woman to be sworn-in as a Supreme Court justice, joining Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
December 12, 2000 – Ginsburg is one of four dissenting justices in the case of Bush v. Gore, a decision that handed the presidency to George W. Bush and is one of the few Supreme Court decisions that isn’t allowed to be used as a precedent.
August 31, 2013 – Ginsburg becomes the first Supreme Court justice to officiate a same-sex marriage ceremony.
August 26, 2020 – The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia gives Ginsburg the center’s Liberty Medal “for her efforts to advance liberty and equality for all.”
September 18, 2020 – Ginsburg loses her battle with pancreatic cancer.
