New Freedom Theatre’s 2012-13 season opens with the 3rd Annual Night of Opera

New Freedom Theatre opens its 2012-13 season on Saturday, November 3 at 7:00 PM. featuring the return of LaTasha Morris, accompanied by pianist John Dulik, and a cast of talented local, national and internationally trained performers.

 

In her announcement of the 2012-13 season, Executive Director Sandra Norris Haughton, who has brought extraordinary vision to the already storied history of the theater, said, “Night of Opera is being held in celebration of National Opera Week (October 26- November 4) and is the latest in a host of new, exciting and innovative traditions being created here at the theatre.”

 

LaTasha Morris began her pursuit and passion for opera at an early age and studied at the famed Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC. After receiving a Bachelors in Music from the University of the Arts , she remained in the city, and has performed with the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Her list of accomplishments include debut and principal performances, providing background for recording artists, directing musicals and an especially endearing devotion to aspiring and up and coming young artists.

 

A performer of both classical and jazz music, John Dulik has appeared with the Philly Pops, Orchestra 2001, Relache and numerous ensembles. He also taught music theory while an assistant professor at the Community College of Philadelphia, where he served for many years as department chairman. He is currently an adjunct member of the School of Music at the University of the Arts.

 

“The theater is celebrating 46 years of developing artists and providing a platform on which they can hone their craft. Our Award winning Performing Arts Training Program, boast artists and alumni seen on stages across America, on screen and on television”, stated Haughton.

 

The 2012-13 season includes Celebrate, A Holiday Musical (November 29-December 9), the return of the popular Home (January 31-February 13) and a new spring musical coming in May of 2013!
