The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention today launched the “Donkeys Around Town” app-based scavenger hunt, demonstrating how the hunt works on Scavify, a free app that can be downloaded at www.scavify.com/dnc. The app can also be downloaded (for iPhone and Android) directly onto a mobile device; users can search for “Donkeys Around Town” on the app. The purpose of the event was to get members of the public excited about the scavenger hunt to find all 57 fiberglass donkeys, which each represent a Democratic delegation coming to Philadelphia to participate in the Convention next week. The scavenger hunt officially begins Wednesday, July 20th and will run through the last day of the Convention, Thursday, July 28th.
“’Donkeys Around Town’ is great way to explore different parts of our city and make the Convention a fun experience for everyone,” said former Pennsylvania governor and Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee Chair Ed Rendell. “The program is already wildly successful, with more and more photos and posts popping up on social media from Philadelphians and visitors every day, and we are thrilled that people are so excited about them. The scavenger hunt will make the program even more fun, and I hope Convention guests and residents download the app and find as many donkeys as they can for great prizes.”
The scavenger hunt, via Scavify, will incentivize users to find as many donkeys as they can across the city. Each donkey will have a corresponding interactive challenge that can be completed to earn points on the app. Participants will be asked to answer questions, check in via GPS, or take fun photos at each donkey location to accumulate points and win prizes. Individuals will also be encouraged to share their scavenger hunt experiences on social media using #DonkeysAroundTown.
The prizing system for the scavenger hunt will be tiered and based on a point system, with each donkey worth 10 points. The more donkeys a user finds, the more points he/she will accrue and the higher the prizing tier. The prize tiers include:
• 50 points (5 donkeys): Family fun pack, including tickets to Philadelphia’s most popular museums, tours, attractions and eateries.
• 150 points (15 donkeys): Choice of either an official “Donkeys Around Town t-shirt” or commemorative Visit Philadelphia magnetic photo frame.
• 300 points (30 donkeys): Complimentary cheesesteak from Sonny’s Famous Cheesesteak as well as entrance into a Grand Prize raffle for either a two-night stay at the Hyatt at the Bellevue, provided by Visit Philadelphia, and gift cards to local restaurants for each night OR the “Ultimate Philadelphia Sports Experience” which includes two tickets to a game during the 2016-17 season of each of Philadelphia’s major sports teams.
• 310-570 points (31-57 donkeys): Extra entry for into the Grand Prize raffle.
Users can begin to collect prizes for the donkeys they find on July 21st. The Grand Prize drawing will take place on Friday, July 29th. All prizes must be redeemed at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Markets Streets.
