Patricia Marshall Harris, host of the popular monthly video podcast, “Dishing with Patricia,” recently welcomed U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans (D- 3rd Dist.) as her guest..
“Dishing with Patricia” is the brainchild of Marshall Harris and her husband, A. Bruce Crawley, CEO of Millennium 3 Management, and is an extension of her parent company, Classie & Essential Nutrition, a high-quality food preparation, lifestyle management and nutritional consultancy, founded 10 years ago.
As part of her responsibilities at “Classie & Essential,” Marshall Harris would routinely make personal presentations, as well as conduct workshops to community groups and to large corporate audiences.
In an effort to stay nimble, in the wake of the pandemic and the reduction of access to corporate offices and “work from home” employees, Marshall Harris and Crawley decided that they would begin to make their food and healthy lifestyle information, packaged with community leadership guest presentations, in a video podcast format.
With that as the backdrop, in addition to healthy food preparation and lifestyle information, the podcast connects its viewers with today’s leaders, influencers and movers-and-shakers. The approach stems from Marshall Harris’ continuing theme that “food is medicine,” and presents the audience with a diversified range of guests who describe their own relationships with food, while “dishing” on topics and current events of their choice.
Evans, serves as a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. He was engaging as a guest, not only because he fully participated in making the plant-based dishes that were prepared during the podcast, but also because he brought viewers up-to-date on several meaningful initiatives and bills he has brought to the House, in service to the communities he serves.
Evans respectfully recalled the late Reverend Leon Sullivan, a Philadelphia pioneer and social activism icon, whose mission he has tried to emulate and advance at the legislative level. He spoke about the disparities in resources that exist in communities of color — especially surrounding the issue of food equity. He explained, in great detail, why policy change is important, and “dished” about several related bills he has co-sponsored having to do with eliminating food deserts, working to support area supermarkets and a family-direct program designed to fight hunger.
The bills specifically related to these concepts are included in the Pennsylvania Fresh Food Financing Initiative, the Healthy Food Financing Initiative, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). These are just a few of the most recent hallmarks included in the elected official’s distinguished career.
As the latest guest presenter, Evans’ appearance is the ninth installment in what has become a stream of notable guests on the podcast. And, like his predecessors, he does not fail to enlighten his listeners through the insights his political tenure and experiences have afforded him. The congressman’s video podcast will premiere on Wednesday, September 15.
