Word Play: Let’s have some serious fun!
That’s the theme of the 27th Annual Celebration of Black Writing Festival. Comic book writers, extreme sports, spoken-word, film, a laugh-riot WURD radio kick-off, the heartwarming Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony on June 2 honoring J. California Cooper, evening author discussions, family-friendly events, and finally, the outdoor-indoor Saturday festival at Temple University.
During the week we produce student matinees for as many as 2,000 students in up to 20 schools. Getting out of class in June: now that’s fun! Plus, special workplace events. Getting out of work: even better!
The Celebration features up to 100 professional and aspiring writers, editors, publishers, scholars, spoken-word artists, playwrights, and filmmakers. Don’t just sit there. Write! Read! Talk back! This festival doesn’t just cater to readers and writers, it helps create new ones.
[Schedule shown to June 1st; the rest of the schedule will run in next week’s issue]
