The ShopRite of Parkside will be offering free tax preparation on January 27th and January 28th to eligible customers filing 2011 returns. The program will be sponsored by Pathways PA to kick off the 2011 tax season and a press event will be held at the ShopRite, located at 1575 N. 52nd Street (52nd and Jefferson) in West Philadelphia, on January 27th at 10:30 AM.
According to the Internal Revenue Bureau, millions of workers may be unaware of a special federal tax credit that could result in up to $5,751 extra in their federal income tax refunds through the Earned Income Tax Credit, or EITC.
Last year’s average credit boosted refunds to those eligible by $2,100. Eligible workers who earned less than $50,000 in 2011 can have their taxes done for FREE by Pathways PA IRS certified tax preparers. Appointments are available January 27th from 9 AM-12 PM or January 28th from 10 AM-3 PM. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Carol Goertzel, President and CEO of PathWays PA hopes that the opportunity for this free tax service will be widely shared. “PathWays PA’s free tax preparation by IRS-certified preparers will save filers hundreds of dollars that can be used to meet families’ needs.”
Jeffrey Brown, President and CEO of Brown’s Super Stores, agrees, “This money can make a real difference to workers struggling in our community. We are trying to help in every way we can.”
