Former Police Commissioner Willie L. Williams has died

policeApril 27, 2016: Former Philadelphia Police Department has announced this morning that Philadelphia Police Commissioner Willie L. Williams, the city’s first African-American police chief, has passed away at 72-years-old.

In 1988, Williams was appointed by Mayor Wilson Goode.  After four years he was appointed police chief of the Los Angeles police department.

Williams resided in Atlanta at the time of his passing.  SUN will have more details as story develops.
