Residents in the 8th Senatorial District who want to get in shape with Zumba or learn line dancing will have many free opportunities to do so during Sen. Anthony H. Williams’ third annual “Health Awareness Season,” now under way.

For the next six weeks, the senator will offer classes in personal training, line dancing, yoga, Zumba, “Showdown Dance Workout,” and the “Insanity Challenge” throughout the district.

Williams introduced this initiative after taking a hard look at not only his own health, but that of his neighbors’ and constituents’ across the district.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Philadelphia County ranks second in the commonwealth in incidence of diabetes. Further, some 1-in-3 Philadelphia County residents and 1-in-4 Delaware County residents are classified as obese.

The free workshops provide a kick-start for many seeking to change their outcomes.

The “Health Awareness Season” is in partnership with Charles P. Carter Insurance & Retirement Services, Drexel University, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, and LA Fitness.
