On Saturday, August 17th, the National Dance Competition, Battle of The Year came to Philadelphia, giving the city’s best dancers an opportunity to prove their skills. Hosted by Power 99FM’s DJ Diamond Kutz, the dance- off took place in the Mall’s Center Court.

The competition was judged by a panel of local celebrities, including Power99FM Morning Show’s Mina SayWhat, CW personality Kharisma McElwaine, Tango Traffic’s Gina Gannon and popular writer and promoter Mister Mann Frisby.
Twelve dance groups competed in the dance off, sponsored by Sony Pictures and DanceOn, for the Grand Prize of $500. The winning group Philly Movement, a local teen dance group, will now advance to the national level, to compete for a chance to appear on BET’s 106th and Park.

The film, Battle of the Year, stars Chris Brown, Josh Holloway, Laz Alonzo and Josh Peck. The film is inspired by the actual world championship held yearly in France. Battle of the Year is an international dance crew tournament that attracts all the best teams from around the world, but the Americans haven’t won in 15 years.
