Retired Phila. Police executive and Cheltenham NAACP president Harvey Crudup, dead at 80

Funeral services for Harvey L. Crudup, 80, a retired Philadelphia Police Department Administrator who also lead the Cheltenham NAACP for decades, were held September 17, 2015 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Spring House, PA. Mr. Crudup died of cancer Sept. 9 his family reported.

Before being promoted to Deputy Police Commissioner, Mr. Crudup served as a Captain in the city’s 39th Police District, one of the perennially toughest in the region. His leadership there led to his additional promotions and his widely respected career in law enforcement. At one point, Mr. Crudup also served as director of the Youth Study Center.
In addition to his wife, Nona Crudup, Mr. Crudup is survived by a son and grandson and many nieces and nephews.
