The struggle of getting a Richard Pryor biopic made is real. Oscar Award-winning actor and producer Forest Whitaker is up for the challenge. He is the latest person to try to bring the life of the legendary comedian’s life to the silver screen.

If you’re a person who stays up on the movie news, you’re probably saying, “Wait, but isn’t the guy who directed ‘Dreamgirls’ directing and Marlon Wayans starring in another biopic?” That was true, but just like the other attempts at bringing Pryor’s life to the screen–it fell apart. Despite being in the works for the past 20 years, none of the writers and producers of other incarnations of the biopic have spoken to Pryor’s widow Jennifer. Whitaker will be developing the movie with Jennifer Pryor so that may give it a boost when it comes to being greenlit.

Forest Whitaker is feeling very confident about his production company Significant Productions and their skill set because the company just produced the hotly anticipated Oscar Grant film Fruitvale. Starring Michael B. Jordan, Fruitvale was a Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winner. With Significant Productions’ last film being hailed by critics, we can’t wait to see how the Richard Pryor biopic comes together.
