Headlined as “A Celebration of Love Uniting,” the wedding of Cherelle Lesley Parker and Benjamin Perry Mullins, Jr. was the showcase event of the 2010 social calendar.
From the very touching and personal messages delivered by the Rev. Dr. Alyn Waller, Senior Pastor of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, who presided, to the sumptuous and lavish food and beverages served at the reception in Center City’s sparkling Curtis Center, this July 30th ceremony, set new standards for excellence and charm.
More than 300 guest filled the Enon Church on Coulter Street to witness the sharing of vows between State Rep. Parker and her husband, IBEW union leader Ben Mullins. Among those in attendance were Mayor Michael Nutter, State Reps. Jewel Williams, John Myers and Ronald Waters; State Sens. LeAnna Washington and Anthony Hardy Williams and Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller. Former state legislator and PA Welfare Secretary John F. White sang “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Standing in for Rep. Parker’s deceased parent’s were “Father of the Bride,” State Rep. Dwight Evans and “Mother of the Bride” Coucilwoman Marian B. Tasco. It was the Honorable Marian Tasker who launched Rep. Parker’s political career nearly 20 years ago when she heard the then very young Cherelle recite her winning speech from the school district’s African American oratorical contest. So impressed was the East Mt. Airy councilwoman that she offered the recent high school graduate an internship in her City Hall office.
