Philly’s casino kicks off 2012 with title sponsorships of fireworks and Mummers Parade

For the second year in a row, SugarHouse Casino will be partnering with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation to present the annual New Year’s Eve fireworks shows at Penn’s Landing, “Twice the Fireworks! Twice the Fun!”

As part of its ongoing commitment to Philadelphia, SugarHouse Casino will sponsor fireworks shows at 6 p.m. and midnight on Dec. 31. Area residents will have the opportunity to watch the displays from the casino’s public pathway.

The fireworks sponsorship comes only weeks after SugarHouse announced it would be the title sponsor of the annual Mummers Parade, the country’s longest-running New Year’s Day celebration.

SugarHouse is a strong economic engine and financial contributor to the city of Philadelphia. In addition to supporting countless nonprofits and city-wide events, SugarHouse generated more than $100 million in city and state tax revenue during its first year of operation.

“SugarHouse is Philly’s casino and we are beyond excited to present the city’s most prominent traditions on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day,” said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse. “It is going to be a fantastic way to end 2011 and ring in 2012 for our casino team, our players and all Philadelphians.”

Celebrate 2012 at SugarHouse

The fireworks will light up the sky near SugarHouse and its riverfront walking path at 6 p.m. and midnight. The displays are choreographed to a special New Year’s Eve soundtrack, which will be streamed through speakers on SugarHouse’s property. A variety of winter treats will be sold along the outdoor path including hot dogs, soft pretzels, hot chocolate and sugar cookies from 5—6:30 PM and 11 PM—12:30 AM. The path is open to the public with no age restrictions, but guests must be 21 years old to enter the casino.

Inside the casino, the complete night of New Year’s Eve fun will begin at 10 PM when The Refinery, SugarHouse’s main restaurant and bar, transforms into a dance party. Guests will receive complimentary New Year’s Eve hats, noise makers and horns while they dance their way into 2012 with live music from the Dane Anthony Band. In addition, party-goers will be treated with spectacular views of the Penn’s Landing fireworks from the casino’s Waterfront patio. Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door, which gets guests two hours of open bar, appetizers and a midnight champagne toast. Visit www.sugarhousecasino.com to purchase tickets.

For players, SugarHouse will have exciting promotions starting on Monday, Dec. 26 through the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Guests can earn Sugar Cubes between noon and midnight through Dec. 30. Each day, one winner will be selected every half-hour to win $2,012 in free slot play. Then, on Dec. 31, one winner will be chosen every 12 minutes to receive $2,012 in free slot play.

On New Year’s Day, SugarHouse will be running free shuttles to take guests back and forth to the parade. Guests can park at SugarHouse for free and ride the Mummers Party Bus over to the Broad Street festivities. The bus will depart SugarHouse every hour, on the hour, starting at 10 a.m., and will drop guests off at the corner of 16th St. and John F. Kennedy Blvd. Passengers will also receive complimentary Mummers swag.

At the casino, there will be a full day of celebrating 2012 with food and beverage specials including a gourmet buffet brunch from 10 AM—2 PM at The Refinery with live pasta stations, build-your-own omelets, a dessert bar and more for $20.12 per person.
